About Zac

Zac de Vries

 Zac de Vries is the leading progressive voice on Council since he was elected in 2018. De Vries has championed climate action, led the development of Saanich’s Housing Strategy, created an Economic Development function for Saanich, initiated urban greening policies, and supported new approaches to road safety.

Serving Saanich residents as a councillor has been the honour of my life. I have worked tirelessly and remained focused on outcomes and results. While I am proud to have achieved progress in making Saanich more affordable, livable, sustainable, and equitable, there is still more work to be done.

As we face the five crises of city building—climate, housing, public health, equity, and infrastructure costs—I will continue to work hard for the people of Saanich.

I focused on political and spatial economy as well as earning a concentration in Urban, Health, and Development Studies. My education has directly prepared me for my work at the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Food as well as Saanich Council. 

It has served as a foundation for my experience and expertise in land use planning and transportation policy.
